Amazon plans to roll out a long-awaited revamp of Fire TV OS in February, introducing a redesigned interface that appears to take cues from Google’s TV platform. The update will bring improved content organization, support for Alexa Plus, and faster performance to the aging operating system — an area that has been a long-standing weakness for Fire TV devices.
Together, these changes are expected to significantly improve the overall Fire TV experience, making devices like the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus more appealing to users.
The Fire TV Stick 4K Plus — previously known simply as the Fire TV Stick 4K — sits in the middle of Amazon’s lineup of 4K streaming devices. It features twice the RAM of the newer “Select” model and supports a wide range of HDR and surround sound formats, including HDR10 Plus, Dolby Vision, DTS, and Dolby Atmos.
The device also supports cloud gaming through Xbox Game Pass, allowing subscribers to stream select titles without a console. In addition, it provides access to major streaming services such as Prime Video, Netflix, HBO Max, and a large selection of free ad-supported TV (FAST) channels in HD and 4K.
On the hardware side, the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus ships with an Alexa Voice Remote, enabling quick access to streaming apps and Amazon’s voice assistant. Users can already control playback, volume, and inputs using Alexa, and with the upcoming Alexa Plus upgrade, voice commands will expand to include features such as retrieving sports statistics, jumping to specific scenes, and performing more advanced actions.
While the enhanced voice experience shows promise, early impressions suggest it is still a work in progress. Even so, the upcoming Fire TV OS refresh represents a meaningful step forward for Amazon’s streaming platform.
