Apple TV+ has become one of the strongest destinations for science fiction on streaming, with standout series such as Severance, Foundation, Pluribus, and more. Amid that expanding lineup, it’s easy to overlook the show that started it all. For All Mankind, Apple TV+’s first original sci-fi series, is finally returning after a two-year hiatus, with Season 5 premiering on March 27.

The upcoming season will consist of 10 episodes, released weekly. The finale is scheduled for May 29, with new episodes dropping every Friday.

Minor spoilers follow.

Apple TV+ announced the release date with a short teaser that features Alex Baldwin, the grandson of the show’s original lead, racing across the surface of Mars on a futuristic motorcycle—hinting at both technological advancement and generational change.

For All Mankind began as an alternate-history drama imagining a world in which the Soviet Union beat the United States to the Moon in the 1960s. Over time, the series has become known for its ambitious time jumps. Season 5 is set in an alternate version of the 2010s, continuing the story of competing space agencies after Mars has developed into a functioning human colony.

Many of the show’s original characters are still part of the story, though they are now decades older. Joel Kinnaman returns as Ed Baldwin, visibly aged but still central to the narrative. Other returning cast members include Edi Gathegi, Coral Peña, and Wrenn Schmidt. New additions to the cast include Sean Kaufman, Mireille Enos, Costa Ronin, Ruby Cruz, and Ines Asserson.

While For All Mankind may not generate the same level of buzz as some of Apple TV+’s newer sci-fi hits, it continues to perform well for the platform. Apple recently confirmed a spinoff series titled Star City, set in the Soviet Union, signaling ongoing confidence in the franchise—though further details remain limited.
