A new audio brand is entering the premium headphone market with an unconventional philosophy. California-based Daisy has unveiled its first over-ear headphones, the Daisy One, choosing to prioritize relaxation and focus over the traditional race for stronger noise cancellation.

Priced at $399 / £364 (around AU$700), the Daisy One competes directly with flagship offerings from Sony and Bose—but instead of trying to outdo them on specifications alone, it introduces a dedicated Still Mode designed to help users unwind at the press of a button.

A Different Take on Premium Headphones

Most flagship headphones emphasize larger drivers, increasingly powerful active noise cancellation (ANC), and neutral audio tuning.

Daisy has deliberately taken a different approach.

Instead of the commonly used 40mm drivers, the Daisy One features 35mm custom drivers tuned by former Harman engineers with an emphasis on rich, low-end performance. While smaller drivers are uncommon in this price segment, Daisy believes careful tuning matters more than size alone.

The headphones also feature a distinctive design with:

  • Slim metallic construction
  • Available in Silver, Dark Green, and Blue
  • Weight of 318 grams, making them slightly heavier than many competitors

Meet ‘Still Mode’

The standout feature of the Daisy One is its dedicated Still Mode button.

Rather than relying solely on ANC to create silence, Still Mode instantly plays calming soundscapes stored within the headphones themselves, eliminating the need to launch an app or even keep a phone connected.

Users can access:

  • Rainfall ambience
  • Ocean waves
  • Guided five-minute breathing sessions
  • Other relaxing California-inspired environmental recordings

The goal isn’t just to block outside noise—it’s to actively encourage relaxation, mindfulness, and improved focus.

Noise Cancellation Still Included

The Daisy One does include active noise cancellation, but Daisy isn’t positioning ANC as its headline feature.

Instead, the company is focusing on achieving the same end result—mental calm—through immersive ambient audio rather than simply eliminating external sounds.

It’s a noticeably different philosophy from brands that continually compete to offer the quietest listening experience possible.

Fresh Thinking From Outside the Audio Industry

According to CEO Jack Mulroe, Daisy’s design team comes from outside the traditional audio industry.

That unconventional background has influenced the product’s direction, encouraging the company to rethink what premium headphones should offer instead of simply following existing trends.

Mulroe has also acknowledged that developing features such as the transparency mode required significant refinement before launch.

Premium Price, Different Priorities

At $399, the Daisy One enters a highly competitive category populated by flagship models from Sony, Bose, Sennheiser, and Apple.

Rather than matching competitors feature-for-feature, Daisy is betting that buyers will appreciate:

  • A unique wellness-focused experience
  • One-touch access to calming audio
  • Distinctive industrial design
  • Bass-focused sound tuning

It’s an approach that makes the Daisy One stand out in an increasingly crowded premium headphone market.

Final Thoughts

The Daisy One isn’t trying to become another Sony WH-1000XM or Bose QuietComfort competitor by winning the specification battle. Instead, Daisy is introducing a fresh perspective centered on mindfulness, focus, and intentional listening.

Whether Still Mode becomes a genuinely useful everyday feature remains to be seen, but it’s an interesting departure from the industry’s usual emphasis on louder sound, bigger drivers, and ever-more-powerful noise cancellation. For users looking for premium headphones that prioritize mental well-being as much as music, Daisy’s debut certainly offers something different.
